Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits, the music festival in downtown Austin. Today it's definitely gentrified with high school teachers taking a weekend to listen to the music while their students skip class to attend. My last visit I never witnessed anyone smoking a blunt, but there were plenty of children under the age of 10.
A few years in college a few of my roommates and I would buy tickets and head down to Austin to experience the live music capital of the world. Be prepared to hydrate well, I love buying the yearly water bottles, a camelpak bottle for $15, they really are a steal. There are 8 stages, of which two are main stages and 4 performances happen every hour. A few bands I've discovered from ACL include DJ Mustard and Rebellution.
Some of my fav food options include Mighty Cone, Tino's Greek Cafe, and Amy's Ice Cream. All 3 are priced similarly to their regular prices and are all Austin essentials. If you get the change try Amy's lavender ice cream, I'm it's biggest fan. Like I said before, stay hydrated because these crowds stay hot! The local Austin vodkas (looking at you Titos and Deep Eddy) sound delish, but really drain your energy in the crowds.
In 2016 my cousin came down from Ohio to experience the festival and had a great time. Everyone I go with always agrees, our favorite shows are the one that cultivate the environment, not just the music. Skrillex in my opinion has done the best job at this as has Kygo. If you want to go, I'd suggest going on a Saturday so you have a full day of recovery before the week starts back up.
ACL one day passes go on sale for $100 today at 12:00 PM Central here, so I'd suggest picking some up ASAP!
